16th QlikWorld!
Last week the 16th QlikWorld (formerly Qonnections) took place online for the second year. It’s one of those very exciting but humungous events where you hardly know where to begin. Climber CEO Jan Sipek has summoned his thoughts both on the content and the event as such – and has a suggestion for Qlik for next year.

I have missed only one of them. My first one was in Philadelphia 2006 with 150 people including customers. I’ve been to Barcelona, Amsterdam and lots of the US. Barbados when Qlik Next (Sense) was launched. Plenty of interesting people at Fountainbleau in Miami. Orlando, Orlando and Orlando – nice wakeboarding there. I was due to head to Arizona when it was covid-cancelled.
QlikWorld (or Qonnections) has been a lot about high-level-energy-level-product launches and a lot of networking with Qlik, customers and our competitors.
This year, 25 000 people signed up. As we are getting used to meeting virtually, we are getting better at it. There was definitely much more energy in this year’s event compared to last year’s in-covid-shock session.
Rebirth of the Associative Model
Qlik’s unique associative model was praised again. The green, white and grey has been one of the clear differentiators and still is. We heard some “home coming” stories from people coming back to Qlik as they could not get the required functionality nor the cost savings using other tools.
SaaS
Qlik is adding functionality and removing limitations in Qlik SaaS with a high speed. The data integration is becoming smoother with higher capacity and the alerting functionality is a must, preferably combined with self-service reporting. At this point in time, most of the use cases are still hybrid solutions; SaaS combined with private cloud or on-prem.
Not Just Passive Front End KPI Watching
Nope, we are on the move towards active intelligence. Qlik Data Integration has been upgraded to Qlik Analytics Data Pipeline loading data into web apps, BI solutions and streaming analytics. The BI solutions can be generated automatically using Insight Advisor or by you getting data from Data Catalog and building your own application using the self-service functionality in Sense. And you can boost your apps using the excellent added-value products from Vizlib. Last but not least, you get a top-notch guided analytics application perfectly aligned with your user group needs by your consultancy. Make sure to choose one that can use all the power that Qlik offers.
One more dimension is that Qlik is using the newly acquired blendr.io technology to trigger events in other systems using API when a KPI reaches a threshold (Qlik Automation). This and more active intelligence can also be achieved using the Vizlib writeback functionality.
And The Real Thing Is Real Time
Even though many of the classical BI solutions, for instance finance, are suitable for nightly updates there are even more use cases requiring immediate update of an analytical solution. This is now possible and you can also see information about when and what has been updated.

Next Year
There is a challenge with the online events, as there is always too much other stuff to do. So even if it’s now possible to attend all breakout sessions, the result is actually that I am watching less than at a physical event.
My suggestion for next year to Qlik
So perhaps Qlik should go for a hybrid event where EU folks can meet for two days close to home, such as Cannes or Barcelona, and a lot of the content can be sent from US or be prerecorded. Networking, good content, no jet lag and nice surroundings.
